How it's calculated
For each of the 171 possible defending typings, the calculator finds the best multiplier any one of your chosen attacking types achieves against it, then classifies the typing by that best result:

Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as "covered"?
A typing is covered if at least one of your chosen attacking types is super effective (2x or 4x) against it -- the same choice a player makes in a real battle, picking the strongest move they have for the matchup in front of them. The calculator takes the best of your picks per typing, not the average.
Why only up to four attacking types?
Because that's how many moves a single Pokémon can know at once. This tool is built around that real constraint: what four move types, together, leave the fewest typings unhit.
How is the coverage score calculated?
Coverage score = (number of the 171 typings your best pick hits for 2x or more) ÷ 171 × 100. It's a single percentage summarizing how much of the whole type space your four picks can threaten.
What does the "gaps" list show?
Every typing where none of your chosen attacking types is even neutral, let alone super effective -- the typings a team built around only these four move types would struggle to dent. It's sorted to show every case, so a small gap list is a genuinely well-rounded set of moves.
Is a higher coverage score always better?
It's one useful signal, not the whole answer -- a real team also needs to consider each type's own weaknesses on defense (see the weakness calculator), STAB, and whichever Pokémon actually learn these move types. Four types that cover 90% of typings but are all on one fragile attacker won't out-perform a better-supported set with a slightly lower score.
