About Type Matchups

Type Matchups is run by a single independent builder as six tools built around one idea: show the matchup, not just the number. Every calculator states the multiplier it computes, works a real example through to the same result the tool itself shows, and is checked against the full 18-type effectiveness chart used in the games since Generation 6 (X/Y, 2013), which added the Fairy type and changed Steel's resistances.

How the calculators work

Every tool on this site runs through one shared engine: a hand-entered copy of the 18x18 type chart (see it in full here), and a small set of pure functions that combine, group, rank or score matchups from it -- one function per calculator, each checked against hand-derived expected values (including several famous, independently verifiable in-game facts) in the site's own test suite before it ships.

Where the chart comes from

The type-effectiveness rules themselves are common knowledge from the core Pokémon video games, not licensed or scraped data -- every cell was entered by hand from the games' own public mechanics, then cross-checked in the test suite against a second, independently hand-typed set of known matchups so a mistake couldn't silently ship. This is the standard chart every mainline game has used since Generation 6.

What it doesn't do

This isn't an official Pokémon product, and Type Matchups isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures Inc., or The Pokémon Company. Pokémon and the names of individual types are trademarks of their respective owners. These tools cover type-effectiveness math only -- no species database, no stats, no move lists, and no in-game data beyond the 18-type chart itself. See Terms.
